UK Universities at the Forefront of AI Research with £117 Million Investment

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has announced an investment of £117 million to support 12 cutting-edge UKRI Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
A Multifaceted Approach to AI
Each of the 12 CDTs is dedicated to AI applied and applicable within at least one of the priority areas, namely: science and research; health; environment and energy; sustainable agriculture and food; defence and security; creative industries; and responsible and trustworthy AI.
Two of ResearchConnect’s valued clients, Imperial College London and the University of Southampton, have been announced as leaders of two of the centres:
- Imperial College London will head up the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Digital Healthcare.
- The University of Southampton will lead the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Sustainability.
These centres will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of AI researchers, paving the way for innovation and advancement across the UK.

The first cohort of UKRI AI CDT students is set to embark on their journey in the academic year 2024-2025, marking the beginning of a new era in AI research and innovation.
