Digital solutions transform UK sexual health services

Sexual health services are increasingly adopting electronic systems dedicated to sexual health to improve patient experiences, manage inefficiencies and support increasing demand.

To explore recent developments in sexual and reproductive healthcare software, Idox has written a six-page insight paper, “Sexual Health Services: Innovative Solutions for New Challenges,” which will launch at the BASHH conference in Bournemouth from 17-19 June 2024. Crucially, this paper explains how technology can help meet new challenges.

Idox’s Lilie, a clinical management platform designed specifically for sexual health services, is leading this transformation. Its electronic patient record (EPR) system provides quick access to patient information and significantly reduces administrative tasks. Lilie’s flexibility accommodates various staffing levels, budgets, and lab speeds, making it adaptable to different clinic needs.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, a top-performing NHS trust, serves over 37,000 patients annually using Lilie. Senior Specialist Nurse Mandi Devine praises the system:

“Lilie has opened up the patient record completely. In one consultation, you have access to results, previous consultations, referrals, and other practitioners’ records in one place.”

The impact has been substantial. SMS reminders reduced non-attendance rates by 60% within four years. The system also allows the trust to match appointments to staffing and resources, reducing the need for administrative staff to handle paperwork.

HIV Specialist Nurse Jan Meechan adds:

“Lilie enhances the patient experience because we can deal with patients very quickly, particularly for telephone queries. Before Lilie, it could take up to an hour to locate a patient’s records. If the records were offsite, it could take days.”

During the pandemic, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust demonstrated the adaptability of Idox’s technology by quickly implementing an online booking system for COVID-19 testing of frontline workers. This system, based on Lilie’s sexual health solution, was operational in under a week and allowed workers to book appointments and receive test results via text.

Lilie’s flexibility and comprehensive features, backed by our dedicated support team, empower clinics to deliver exceptional patient care and meet their operational challenges.

Vinay Neogi, Head of Product Development at Idox Software, said, “Lilie’s flexibility and comprehensive features, backed by our dedicated support team, empower clinics to deliver exceptional patient care and meet their operational challenges. At BASHH we are looking forward to strengthening relationships with existing customers and establishing connections with potential new ones to find out what this means to you.”
