North Yorkshire Council embraces digital transformation with Idox

North Yorkshire Council, the largest unitary authority in England, has partnered with Idox to modernise its planning, building control, and land charges services. This strategic move will drive digital transformation and enhance service delivery for the newly formed council.

 A unified approach

Following the 2023 local government reorganisation, North Yorkshire Council consolidated nine former district, borough, and county councils:

  • Craven District Council
  • Hambleton District Council
  • Harrogate Borough Council
  • Richmondshire District Council
  • Ryedale District Council
  • Scarborough Borough Council
  • Selby District Council
  • North Yorkshire County Council
  • North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership

This consolidation presented a unique opportunity to streamline operations and improve efficiency across the entire region. By migrating to Idox’s Uniform Cloud, the Council is moving away from multiple on-premise systems to a unified, cloud-based solution.

By adopting a single unified Uniform Cloud platform, the Council will benefit from:

  • Consolidated systems: harmonise multiple systems into a single, integrated platform to help enable effective service operations.
  • Enhanced efficiency: streamline workflows and reduce administrative burdens.
  • Improved service delivery: help empower the Council to deliver faster, more accurate services to citizens and businesses.
  • Reduced costs: moving to a fully hosted and managed solution will lower infrastructure costs and enable the redirect of resources to vital service delivery.
  • Enhanced security: Benefit from robust security measures and regular updates, provided as part of the fully managed service offering.

To complement this move, the Council is migrating its Local Land and Property Gazetteer, Local Street Gazetteer (LSG) and Additional Street Data (ASD) to Idox’s iManage Cloud Gazetteer Management System (GMS). This new cloud-based GMS will underpin Idox Cloud, ensuring only the most accurate address data is used across the unitary.

Graeme Thistlethwaite, Head of Systems and Applications, commented, “We are excited to be working with Idox to consolidate our eight planning and building control systems into one new cloud system to transform our service now and, in the years, to come. The aim of this is to deliver excellent, value for money services while improving outcomes for local people, businesses, and communities across North Yorkshire.”

“We’re excited to help North Yorkshire Council realise the full potential of this consolidation, improving efficiency and service delivery for the region,” said Rachel Emmett-Renaud, Idox Account Manager.
